{"id":6,"date":"2020-08-12T18:51:48","date_gmt":"2020-08-12T18:51:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.rabbiniccitations.jewishstudies.digitalscholarship.brown.edu\/blog\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2020-08-25T12:52:25","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T12:52:25","slug":"the-citation-networks","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.rabbiniccitations.jewishstudies.digitalscholarship.brown.edu\/blog\/the-citation-networks\/","title":{"rendered":"The Citation Network(s)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The links below will bring you to four different visualizations of the rabbinic citation network of the Babylonian Talmud.\u00a0 \u00a0Each page has two parts: a static diagram and a (somewhat) interactive network below it.\u00a0 You can hover over and click nodes in the interactive network to see the rabbi and his connections.\u00a0 For more information about how the data was produced, see our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rabbiniccitations.jewishstudies.digitalscholarship.brown.edu\/blog\/data\/\">Data<\/a> page.\u00a0 The visualizations were produced in Gephi and then exported with a Sigma.js template (produced through a plugin for Gephi), which was then uploaded directly into WordPress.\u00a0 The Gephi file, which has a great deal more usability, can be downloaded from our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/publication\/343614796_RabbiQuotes\">ResearchGate<\/a> site.\u00a0 Note that for several of these visualizations the names are only in Hebrew.\u00a0 These visualizations come from the same data.<\/p>\n<p>We discuss these networks in our forthcoming article in <em>AJS Review, <\/em>&#8220;The Rabbinic Citation Network.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rabbiniccitations.jewishstudies.digitalscholarship.brown.edu\/blog\/the-citation-networks\/full-network\/\">Full Network<\/a>:\u00a0 A visualization of every rabbi in the Babylonian Talmud and their connections through citation networks (i.e., whether they are cited or cite any other rabbi).\u00a0 More connected rabbis are grouped in the center; less connected rabbis on the edges.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rabbiniccitations.jewishstudies.digitalscholarship.brown.edu\/blog\/the-citation-networks\/limited-network\/\">Limited Network<\/a>:\u00a0 A pared down version of the full network, with only those rabbis who are connected to one or more other rabbis.\u00a0 More connected rabbis are grouped in the center;
